“This work stands as an important contribution to Virgin Islands history.

It preserves a family’s legacy while illuminating the lived experiences that

shaped our islands’ cultural and maritime identity.”

--Kimarie Engerman, Dean of UVI College of Liberal Arts

Wilfred Elisha Allick--Story of a Virgin Islands Hero , just published but previously written by Myron Allick, is a collection of memories in Virgin Islands history and cultural norms. It narrates the deep family ties between branches of this tenth generation Crucian family that I became a part of through my marriage to Myron's brother, Junie. Although the book was just published, it was in the making for many years and it inspired me to write Ghosts in My DNA--Past Lives of Boston.

"Junie Bomba" and I became attached through sailing. My father's sail boat had been a part of my childhood and I had been racing small boats and teaching during the summers through college. At Boston University I was a member of the women's varsity sailing team from 1974-76. We made the national's twice. Junie was already a Virgin Islands icon known for sailing the Northstar and being a musician. Our sailing schools spanned 1987-2019 in several iterations.

Junie brought me into his family and I lived some of the memories and absorbed the customs and mores related in Myron's book and we raised our children in Crucian culture. My book Ghosts in my DNA-Past Lives of Boston is a response to his family history story for my children. However, my information didn't come from lived experience. I had no living grandparents at the time I was born. I had to search historic archives, letters, and newspapers to find my culture and ancestral background. And being such a small family, there is no comparison to the many hundreds in the Allick/Sackey Clan.

To purchase a copy of Myron's book call 340-690-4535 for details.

I will be at the Boston Book Festival on October 17th with the Independent Publishers of New England in Copley Square. If you are there, please stop by the IPNE Exhibit for a copy of my genealogy journey and learn more about Wilfred Elisha Allick--Story of a Virgin Islands Hero .

Best wishes 😊
